The use of linseed oil based paints in interiors requires knowledge and experience. The paint must always be applied in thin and even coats. It is important to respect the prescribed drying time. Use good quality pig bristle paint brushes to apply the paint.
Note: When painting indoors, add 1% extra drying agent (drier) to the paint (10 ml/1 litre of paint) unless otherwise stated. See instructional videos.

COATINGS - EXTERIOR
Painting the facade with linen paint diluted with turpentine
This video shows you how to paint a wooden facade with linen paint. In this case, the paint is diluted with turpentine. Such treatment will ensure the protection of the wood. The end result will be a semi-matte gloss.

Repainting of carpentry products in exteriors
This video shows how to repaint woodwork outdoors with linen paint. In this video, we paint an old basement door and put in a new window pane.
COATINGS - WINDOWS
Windows are one of the exterior feature that is exposed to the weather conditions. Applying linseed oil is one of the traditional treatments that provides excellent protection and a beautiful result. If you have a window that was originally painted with synthetic paint, you can continue painting with linen paint and get good results.
The video shows how to treat your windows with linseed oil, step by step, in order to achieve the best results even if you’ve never used linseed oil on windows before.
COATINGS AGAINST RUST
For some time we have been producing a linen paint that protects metal from rust – iron oxide minimum minium – and we have already received a lot of positive feedback from our customers.
For the first time we learned about iron oxide minium from the book Hantverkets bok Måleri (A Book on the Craft of Painting), from its second edition, published in 1934. It reads: “Iron oxide minimum minium has very good covering properties and is completely neutral from a purely chemical point of view, which makes it an extremely suitable coating with a preventive effect against corrosion. Iron oxide minium oil suspension also seems to have a preservative effect on the wood.” This was the only information we had nearly 15 years ago when we began testing an eco-friendly alternative to toxic red lead oxide.
The pigment we use for the production of this paint comes from Spain. It is a mineral pigment called hematite and its texture is such that the paint looks like fish scales. Due to their shape, the pigment grains are embedded in the paint layer like fish scales. Keďže sú ešte spojené ľanovým olejom, pre vodu je veľmi ťažké preniknúť (cez takýto náter) až k povrchu kovu.
When painting metal surfaces outdoors, graphite is traditionally used as a pigment. Graphite does not protect against rust, so iron surfaces should be painted with iron oxide miniumbase paint. Graphite is first mentioned in literature in 1604. It is a mineral modification of carbon with a metallic sheen and is used, for example, for the production of pencil cases. Due to the nature of the pigment, the Graphite Linen paint that we produce has a slightly different consistency than our other paints due to the nature of the pigment. Graphite rubs off easily and should therefore not be used, for example, on chair seats.
CARE FOR COATINGS
Based on the amount of sun exposition, the linseed paint will start to fade away slowly, especially on the south oriented surfaces . This is the indication that linseed oil in the paint is decomposing. Paint dulling is a natural process and requires no immediate intervention. When the paint is already completely dull, it becomes “chalky”, i. e. it rubs off when touched, but does not peel off from the substrate. The positive side of the “thinning” process is that “the paint cleans itself”, which means that any dirt, mould or algae is removed from the surface. However, this can cause some practical problems, for example, paint from garden furniture can leave stains on clothing. However, we would like to point out that the decomposition process of linseed paint only occurs outdoors. In interior interiors, linen coatings have an almost unlimited lifespan.
Maintenance of rough sawn surfaces of rough sawn timber with linseed oil with turpentine. .
Clean the surface sufficiently. Mix equal amounts of raw linseed oil and turpentine and apply one thin layer to the surface. Make sure the linseed oil has soaked into the substrate and remove any excess oil with a dry brush.
Maintenance of smooth machined surfaces with pure linseed oil only
Clean the area you want to work with and brush on a thin layer of raw or boiled linseed oil. After half an hour, wipe off any excess oil. The paint will regain its original colour and gloss.
When to repaint?
If a surface painted with linseed paint becomes dull, many people think it needs to be repainted. In terms of durability, a coat of linseed paint will last a long time in exteriors even with a matt appearance. The appropriate time to repaint the surface may come after 8 – 15 years, but this is mainly for aesthetic reasons rather than for the durability of the paint.
